Barbara Lynn Bruce passed away Jan 10, 2026, at 10:25 am.
At the time of her death, Barbara was living in Morehead City, North Carolina. Before that she lived in Sandy Springs, Georgia for most of her life.
She was born October 18, 1943 in Huntington, West Virginia and she was 83 years old. Her cause of death was an infection due to colon cancer.
Barbara is survived by two sons Mark Miller of Orlando, FL , Charles Whitehurst and his wife Gloria of Lucama, NC. She gave them both up for adoption in 1963 and 1965, but was happily reunited with them both 15 years ago. She had three grandsons, Nathan Miller of Orlando FL, Cole Miller of St Augustine, FL, Trey Ricketts of Stantsonsburg, NC, and a granddaughter, Abby Ricketts of Fremont NC. She is survived also by her brother Mike Bruce of Naples FL, his wife Barbara, and thier children Lindsay and Jeff Bruce.
Barbara was a veteran and served in the US Naval Reserve for 25 years. She graduated from UNC Greensboro, and received a BA, and went on to American University where she received her Masters Degree. She worked for ATT for several years, and she at one time worked for Howard Hughes at the beginning of Braniff Airlines, training personnel.
She was an Actress and loved being on stage. She loved being an extra in Movies as well. She was in several, including one with Tom Cruise. She would dress up as Minnie Pearl and do an impression by saying
"Howdee!"
She loved her Church and was a Missionary overseas for a time.
Mount Vernon Presbyterian in Sandy Springs, Georgia, was where she attended regularly for many years and did volunteer work, like checking in on shut ins, and delivering meals.
She also loved animals, especially dogs.
We are planning a memorial service for Barbara at The Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church at 1:00 p.m., March 21, 2026. The church is located at 471 Mt Vernon Hwy NE, Sandy Springs GA, 30328. Her remains will be inurned at the Church following the ceremony, as per her wishes.
Her smile will be missed by all who knew her. She would always end her phone conversations, by saying "Love You, Love You, Love You!".
