Born on January 16, 1932, in Carteret County, NC, to the late Samuel and Nadine Conner, Audrey was a remarkable Christian woman whose faith and kindness left a profound impact on those around her. A devoted member of Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church, she was a cherished presence within the congregation and staff. For nearly 21 years, she participated in a local prison ministry, sharing her faith and providing hope to numerous individuals in need.
Audrey's warm personality endeared her to everyone she met, and she had a unique ability to make others feel welcome and valued. Always ready to lend a helping hand, her compassion and generosity were evident in everything she did.
Audrey looked forward to the Newport Pig Cookin’ Contest each year where she volunteered and helped out in numerous capacities. Being from the coast, she loved oysters, a favorite food that she and her sister, Josie, often ate together. A talented cook and baker, she was known for her delicious coconut pineapple cake and sweet potato casserole. Her garden, lovingly tended to, showcased her extraordinary gardening skills, earning her the affectionate nickname of having "a big green thumb".
Audrey will be remembered as a loving sister, mother, and grandmother, whose legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire generations to come.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her sister, Josie Guthrie; granddaughters, Connie Mattiews (Leonard), Tammy Yaghi (Ash) and Aimee Leslie (Chris); niece, Angela Griffin; 9 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Audrey was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Midgette; daughter, Susan Bratcher; son, Thomas Keith Bratcher; sisters, Loise Bitter and Lydia Patrick; and brothers, Clyde Conner and Hayward Conner.
