Ardeth Smith Herman, 95, of Cedar Point, North Carolina, formerly of Mechanicsville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, at Onslow Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service to honor Ardeth’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, August 7th at Devotional Gardens in Warsaw, North Carolina.

Ardeth, lovingly known as "Ard" to her family and friends, was born on September 28, 1930, in Warsaw, North Carolina, to the late Raymond and Audoliah Smith. During her 33 years of marriage to Norman, the couple lived in six different states as his career took them to various places. In 1970, they chose Virginia as their permanent home, where they settled with their daughter, Janel.

Ard loved to share her family history with anyone who would listen and had a wonderful memory. Before retiring in 1995, Ard was a nurse for 35 years caring for babies. She was a line dancer for 20 years, loved planting her vegetable garden each summer, enjoyed music, and traveling with friends. At 90, she relocated to North Carolina to be closer to her brother, sister-in-law and family.

Ard is survived by her sister-in-law, Cathy Smith; nieces, Diane Smith Everette, Angie Smith Singer (Steve); great nieces, Tracy Eason (C.J.), Jessica Everette, Logan Timar (Cody), and Tori Bailey (Mason); great nephew, Jordan Singer; and great-great niece and nephews, Mallory, Conner and Reese.

In addition to her parents, Ard was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Herman; daughter, Janel; and brother, Devon "T-Bone" Smith.
