Anne Kronlage Solomon, 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2026, at her home in New Bern, NC.
A funeral service and burial to honor Anne's life will be held at 2 pm on May 30th at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home in Fairfax, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Anne was born on October 19,1932 in New Orleans, LA to the late George and Zenobia Weingart. She was raised during the hardships of the Great Depression and the years of WWII that followed. Anne developed a strength and resilience that remained with her throughout her life.
Anne attended Loyola University in New Orleans where she earned a degree in medical technology. It was there that she met Hank Kronlage, whom she married in 1954. Though told by doctors they would be unable to have children of their own, their son Ron was born in 1959 (a miracle baby, the doctor called him). Three more "miracles" followed and the family was complete. Anne lived a life marked by gratitude and dedication to her family, whom she cherished.
Anne lost her husband and best friend when Hank passed away unexpectedly in 1980. She had written in a memoir that the loneliness in those sad years that followed was outweighed by the compassion and love of her neighbors and friends. Overtime, she found she could love again and married Ed Solomon in 1989. A friend remarked, "How could you have been so lucky twice?" Anne's and Ed's years together were filled with dancing, traveling, volunteering, visiting grandchildren, and thanking God every day for this second chance.
Anne is survived by her children, Ron Kronlage (Cindy) of Fairfax, VA, James Kronlage (Mary) of Elizabeth City, NC, Lynne Bogard (Greg) of New Bern, NC, and Karl Kronlage (Monica) of Woodbridge, VA; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and a niece and three nephews, and their families.
In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her husbands, Hank Kronlage and Ed Solomon; her sister, Elvia; and her brother, GW, IV. All are reunited, and we are imagining a New Orleans style celebration!
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Relief Services, S.O.M.E. (So Others Might Eat), or the Alzheimer's Association.
