Albert "Al" Kinchen Hines Jr., 68, of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Carteret Health Care.
A memorial service to honor Als's life will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, October 8th at Munden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.
Al was born on December 23, 1954, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, to the late Albert Kinchen Hines Sr. and Edith Smith Hines. After graduating with a bachelor's degree from NC State University, Al went on to establish himself as the esteemed owner and operator of Hines Manufacturing Company in his hometown of Rocky Mount. Through his dedication and hard work, the company flourished under his guidance, becoming a pillar of success in the turf equipment manufacturing industry.
From a young age, Al demonstrated a passion for giving back to his community. As an Eagle Scout, he embodied the values of leadership, integrity, and service. Throughout his life, he remained actively involved in scouting and encouraged others to embrace the same spirit of adventure and personal growth.
Al expanded his horizons during his collegiate years at NC State University, where he was a proud member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. The camaraderie and lifelong friendships forged during this time remained cherished memories throughout his life. Al was also an active member of various professional clubs, further demonstrating his dedication to personal growth and networking.
Al shared 44 beautiful years of marriage with his loving wife, Ann, who stood by his side through thick and thin. He was a loving and devoted father, always there to provide guidance and support to his children. However, it was in his role as "Pop Pop" to his beloved grandchildren that he found the purest joy. Nothing gave him greater pleasure than his time with them, enjoying their laughter and sharing stories that will be passed down through generations.
In his leisure time, Al had various interests. He was fascinated with old-school science fiction, enjoying the exciting and imaginative worlds. While he wasn't necessarily an avid hunter, he thoroughly enjoyed memorable times spent at the Brinkleyville Hunt Club. Al was a masterful storyteller, captivating everyone with his vivid tales that enraptured their minds and hearts. He also loved to cook and found great pleasure in preparing meals for his family and friends. Whether it was a feast on special occasions or a simple gathering, he was sure to make every meal a memorable experience.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Ann Forrest Hines; son, Albert "Kitch" Kinchen Hines III and wife Crystal of Beaufort; sisters, Sheila Hines Mann of Prospect, KY and Karen Hines Cousins of Enfield, NC; grandchildren, Brecken Hines and Harper Hines; and of course, his furry friend, his dog "Charlie".
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, East Carolina Council, P.O. Box 1698, Kinston, NC 28503.
